Capital Markets CIO Outlook | Thursday, September 27, 2018

In recent years, test automation has become quite popular in software development organizations. Test automation involves software tools to automate the execution of tests and record results and has become essential in tandem with DevOps and Agile software development paradigms. Almost 72 percent of organizations are currently automating testing, 56 percent of them are already using DevOps practices, and 55 percent of them have adopted Agile methodologies. With the changes in the marketplace and user expectations across the globe, companies are using the robust software as a primary means for interacting with their customers. This means that they are much more proactive about what users want.

Continuous software delivery has helped organizations reach their goals in different sectors but test automation an essential component of maintaining high quality in the continuous delivery environment has not been benefitted enough. It is also not easy to implement test automation in businesses. It is still an emerging practice, and even though many organizations are automating at least a few tests, many of them are automating less than half of all testing as well. Implementing automation requires QA teams to develop several new strategies for testing, learning different new skills and implementing several new tools.

Many new processes in businesses that are driven by technology can affect testers, developers, and business analysts. Thus organizations must focus on hiring skilled test automation engineers who have deep expertise about the changing businesses and who can lead others.

Other than building a strong team, technology adoption also plays a significant role in test automation. Many new tools and frameworks supporting test automation need to be put in the right place within the work frame of the business. Here, companies face a challenge of choosing the right tool for their organization so that they can keep track of automation progress.By complimenting manual testing processes, automation reduces errors that can be the outcome of repetitive tests and also helps testers save their time. It can take care of heaps of rudimentary tasks, and this can be a reality with the right choice.
